“Stephan” said Linda Puppolo of the Maui AIDS Foundation when she called me. “As you may have heard, STI’s are on the uptick nationwide, including in Maui County. We have been awarded a grant to help turn the tide of this trend and the only way to do this is through storytelling. You’re the one for this job.”
And so the adventure began, whittling down the story universe from infinite possibilities to the very specific people who would emotionally carry the message.
There were many worthy people with incredible film-worthy stories, but it was both Brian and Tiare’s who rose to the very top.
While most stories are told from the perspective of one solitary protagonist, every so often a dual protagonist one comes along. These are most complex to pull off and only work if both protagonists want the very same thing. Think Thelma and Louise or War of the Worlds (where all of humanity wants the same thing: to survive).
We are so honored to be the preeminent, top-of-mind storytellers in Maui County.
Next is Kauai where we’ll be telling some incredible stories of myth and lore.
